Manny Ramirez has tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs and will be suspended 50 games starting today, according to the Los Angeles Times. Fifty games is the policy mandated suspension for a positive drug test in Major League Baseball. Ramirez joins Alex Rodriguez on the steroid list, the two highest paid players in the league.

Ken Shamrock

Veteran fighter Ken Shamrock tested positive for steroids following his first-round victory over Ross Clifton on Feb. 13th in Fresno, California. The California State Athletic Commission on Wednesday suspended Shamrock for one year. Shamrock also faces a $2,500 fine. He tested positive for Norandrosterone, Stanozolol, and Noretiocholanolone. Shamrock was next scheduled to face off against former professional wrestler Bobby Lashley in the MMA main event on March 21 in Florida.

Serena Williams is an American professional tennis player who is ranked World No. 1 by the Women’s Tennis Association, having now held that ranking on four different occasions. She is the current US Open and Australian Open singles champion and has won 20 Grand Slam titles: ten in singles, eight in women’s doubles, and two in mixed doubles. Miguel Tejada

Houston Astros’ All-Star shortstop Miguel Tejada is the latest athlete to be charged with lying about steroids. Tejada is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday where he is expected to plead guilty to lying to congress. The charges against Tejada were outlined in documents filed in Washington federal court on Tuesday, February 10th.

In an interview with Peter Gammons of ESPN, Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez admitted to using steroids while with the Texas Rangers. His excuse? He wanted to live up to his $252 million contract.
“I’m guilty of being negligent, naive,” he said.
Rodriguez said he used steroids during all three seasons he was with the Rangers, from 2001-2003. However, he said he did not know which substances he was guilty of using.

Alex Rodriguez tested positive for steroids during the 2003 season, his last with the Texas Rangers, according to sources. SI.com is reporting that A-Rod, who won the Home Run Title and MVP that season, tested positive for two anabolic steroids, Primobolan and testosterone, in a test that was supposed to be anonymous. Four sources have told this information to Sports Illustrated.

A federal judge in San Francisco on Friday sentenced former NFL defensive lineman Dana Stubblefield to two years probation for lying to authorities about his use of performance-enhancing drugs in connection to the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative (BALCO) case. The AP reports say Stubblefield’s later cooperation with authorities in the BALCO steroids case kept him from getting three months’ home confinement, which is what federal probation officials had recommended. The 1997 defensive player of the year was also fined $5,000.
Six NFL Players Suspended

Six NFL players were suspended for four games without pay by the NFL on Tuesday for violating the league’s anti-doping policy by using a diuretic which can serve as a masking agent for steroids. The suspended players were running back Deuce McAllister and defensive linemen Charles Grant and Will Smith of New Orleans; defensive linemen Kevin and Pat Williams of Minnesota; and long snapper Bryan Pittman of Houston. Unlike the previous players that have been suspended this season, this suspension included big names
Bonds Documents Unsealed

Thousands of pages of grand jury testimony related to the long-running steroids investigation of Barry Bonds and other athletes were unsealed Wednesday by a federal judge. Much of the testimony has previously been leaked, but this is still an important step as Bonds faces charges of making false statements and obstruction of justice for allegedly lying to a grand jury
